There are two kinds of time. One is measured in deadlines, billable hours, and deliverables. The other passes differently — through a Sunday afternoon, through the particular quiet of someone asleep, through the moment just before understanding something.
Quiet Bonds. Stories from an Auditor brings together paintings made over three years of sustained, parallel attention. Two series, two registers of daily life — one private, one professional — observed with the same unhurried eye.
The personal series stays close to the body and the home: rest, recreation, the drift of an afternoon lost to a screen. These are moments that belong to no job title, no hierarchy. They are common in the most precise sense of the word — shared, recurring, easy to overlook. Dimitriu does not romanticize them. She simply refuses to let them pass unnoticed.
The professional series applies the same patience to the office: a decision that hasn't been made yet, a document being reviewed, a meeting room where something is being worked out. Corporate life rarely appears in painting without irony or critique standing guard. Here, neither is present. The boardroom and the bedroom are treated with equal seriousness, and that equivalence is the argument.
Several threads run through both series. Absent presence — the body in the room, the mind elsewhere — appears as a quiet symptom of contemporary life, observed without verdict. The figure of the animal carries its own logic: in the long tradition from Diogenes to Schopenhauer, the dog is pure present tense, unburdened by the anxiety of tomorrow. And the question — that precise moment before understanding, when the mind is most alive and most open — recurs as its own kind of arrival.
Quiet Bonds is also a first: the first exhibition of art hosted in the offices of Deloitte Romania, and the first solo show in Romania by the artist. That both facts are true of the same project is not incidental. Corina Dimitriu has worked as an auditor and made paintings in the same years, with the same concentration. The exhibition is not a departure. It is what was always there.
Corina Dimitriu is an artist and auditor. Quiet Bonds. Stories from an Auditor is her first solo exhibition in Romania, presented in collaboration with Sandwich Gallery.
